March 31st, 1947 - May 9th, 2025
Charles (“Chuck”) Mann, died surrounded by his loving family on May 9, 2025 in Venice, Florida. Born March 31, 1947 to the late Raymond and Louise Mann, he lived most of his life in Connecticut before retiring to Florida in 2007. Chuck and his wife Karen met at Newtown High School where they both taught. They went on to enjoy 48 years together, traveling the world, playing golf, and spending time with friends and family. He was a loving life- partner. Chuck leaves his son and best friend Jeffrey and wife Christine (Chrissy) of Charlotte, North Carolina. He was Grandpa to his five cherished grandchildren: Landon, Hannah, Mackenzie, Madison, and Grayson. He loved reading and playing with them. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Jean (Mann) Long and Barbara (Mann) Bigham. He leaves behind an extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews. The Mann annual picnic was a favorite in years past.
Chuck spent many years in education, from his Wooster High School years to completing advanced degrees from Western Connecticut State University, Wesleyan University, and Southern Connecticut State University. He loved discussing politics and foreign relations. His interest in teaching high school students led him to Newtown High School. Chuck immersed himself in his job during his long and diverse career. He wore many ‘hats” as a teacher serving as: a coach, Adult Education administrator, team- teacher for American Studies, Professional development team member, and union representative. After his time as class advisor, the students dedicated their Yearbook to him.
Chuck spent many years golfing and developed life-long friendships Golfers who knew Chuck recognized his “sweet golf swing” and bucket hat on the Capri golf course. He became an accomplished player earning honors such as Club Champion and Member/Member winner. He had three hole-in-ones on his golf ‘resume’. Most of all, he simply enjoyed the game.
He will be sorely missed and remembered by the network of friends and relatives with whom he kept in touch regularly. A memorial service and burial are being planned for July in Southbury, CT. A reception at Capri Isles Golf Club is being arranged for October. Updates will follow.
