CWO3 (Ret.) Michael Clifford Bales

 

Michael Clifford Bales passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025, at the age of 77.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice and Clifford Bales, and his first wife, Cynthia Allen Bales. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 32 years, Diane Davis Bales; son, Rob Bales and Daughter in-law, Malea; stepchildren, Matt Davis, Ryan Davis, and Ashley Davis-Moon and son in-law Brian; five grandchildren; brother, Alan Bales and sister in-law Cindy; 2 nieces; and sister, Barbara Bales and brother in-law JT Coyne.

 

Born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, Mike graduated from Tucson High School in 1966. A talented trombone player, he was a member of the THS Band, Tijuana Tech pep band, Lyres Club, and the BIO-CHEM-PHY Clubs.

 

In 1969, Mike enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served honorably as a Telecommunications Technician and COMSEC Equipment Repair Technician. His 21-year military career took him around the world, including two tours in Korea and Germany, and assignments in Italy and England. He was deployed to Kuwait in 1990 in support of Operation Desert Storm. His longest stateside post was at Fort Huachuca, where he began a second career in Civil Service. In 2020, he retired with 51 years of combined military and civil service.

 

A dedicated ham radio operator, Mike was a proud member of the American Radio Relay League. He actively participated in events with the Cochise Amateur Radio Association and the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service. His call sign, KC7GTY, was known to many in the amateur radio community.

 

Mike will be remembered for his service, his quiet strength, and his devotion to family and country.
