Phillip Morgan "Phil" Newby
December 7th, 1946 - May 15th, 2025
Phillip Morgan “Phil” Newby, 78, of Versailles, and devoted husband of Kathleen “Kathy” Newby passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025 in Lexington. A Lexington native, he was born to the late Charles Morgan Newby and Doris (Dedman) Newby on December 7, 1946. A Christian, he and Kathy attended Southland Christian Church.
After serving our nation honorably in the U.S. Army, Phil built a successful career at IBM and Lexmark. He retired in 2008.
He loved the valuable time he spent with Kathy and special friends in Florida.
In addition to his loving wife of 44 years, he is survived by their three children, Michelle (Patrick) Armstrong, Marlene (Clay) Smitson, and Mathew “Matt” (Kirby) Hisel; brother Daryl (Roxane) Newby; and six grandchildren, Clarissa, Sam, Bren, Anna, Eli, and Noah.
Services celebrating Phil’s life will occur on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Clark Legacy Center-Brannon Crossing: visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., funeral at 1:00 p.m. A committal service with military honors will take place the same day at 2:30 p.m., Camp Nelson National Cemetery. The day of services will conclude with a celebration of life gathering starting at 3:30 p.m. at Clark Legacy Center-Brannon Crossing.
