Loraine Tingey Nelson
October 7th, 1950 - May 5th, 2025
Loraine Tingey Nelson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on May 5, 2025 in Lacey, Washington. Born on October 7, 1950, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Loraine was the ninth of ten children born to William Wesley Tingey and Sylvia Carr Tingey. She was raised on a farm in Centerville, Utah, where she developed the strong work ethic and deep love of family and service that would define her life. Loraine was a proud and active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and found joy in her pioneer heritage.
Loraine attended Weber State College and Utah State University, where she met her eternal companion, Thomas Lee Nelson. They were married on August 28, 1970, in the Salt Lake City, UT LDS temple. Together they raised seven children: Thomas Tingey Nelson (Elizabeth), Tyler Tingey Nelson (deceased), Joseph Tingey Nelson, Marie Nelson Martin (Gregory), Vaughn Tingey Nelson (Amy), Alex Tingey Nelson (Stephanie), and Lacey Nelson Glancy (TJ).
In 1973, Loraine and Tom moved to Lacey, Washington, settling into their forever home in January 1979. It was there that Loraine’s legacy of service, music, and love truly flourished. She faithfully served in numerous callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Stake Relief Society president, Stake and Ward Primary president, Cub Scout den leader, choir accompanist, and many others. For over 40 years, she volunteered with Olympia Junior Programs, serving 10 years as board president. Music was a central part of Loraine’s life. She taught piano lessons for nearly 20 years and was an accomplished accompanist. She accompanied many violinists and various musical ensembles, including the Sound Singers. Her piano playing brought comfort, joy, and beauty into countless lives. She was also a gifted seamstress, lovingly creating clothing for her children, a variety of costumes, baby blankets, and more. She used her talents to bless others, often in quiet, unseen ways.
Above all else, Loraine’s life was centered on her family. She was a devoted and nurturing mother and grandmother to 21 grandchildren. She remembered birthdays and was always genuinely interested in the details of her loved ones’ lives. Her famous whole wheat cookies and warm hospitality made her home a haven for all. To be loved by Loraine was to be known, nourished, and cherished. Her legacy of faith, service, and unconditional love will live on in the countless lives she touched.
Funeral services will be held on May 24, 2025 at 11:00am with a viewing at 10:00am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 1602 Ruddell Rd. SE, Lacey, WA
