Kiyoko Nolan, 91, lived in Widefield, Colorado since 1975. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 7, 2025 – to be reunited with her husband Jim. Kiyoko and Jim had been married for 66 years until he passed away on December 31, 2024. They have two “children” James, son (Colorado Springs) and Joanne Galindo, daughter (Conrad and granddaughter, Cameron in Del Rio, Texas).

Kiyoko was born on January 12, 1934, in Wakamatsu, Japan. Her parents were Letoshi and Yukiyo Sugiyama (deceased); she had three brothers and three sisters.

She and Jim traveled back to Japan several times to see her family – the first time was in 1984. Over the years, two of her sisters have come to the US to visit. She met Jim when he was stationed in Japan with the United States Air Force in 1957. They fell in love and were married on June 16, 1958, and July 3, 1958. In 1958, Kiyoko moved to Watertown, New York to meet Jim’s parents and family. They instantly loved her.

Kiyoko and Jim moved to different Air Force Bases – they lived in Mississippi, England (during the Beatles days), Florida, Colorado, and the Azores, Portugal. Jim retired from the USAF in 1978. They settled back in Colorado Springs and that has been their home for the past fifty years.

Kiyoko was a homemaker. She always made a house our home. She was an excellent seamstress. Kiyoko loved to sew, knit, oil paint, cook, and garden. She loved her family and was very active at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church. She kept in constant contact with her sister, brothers, and their families.

Kiyoko was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her parents, two brother, and two sisters. She is survived by her children, Joanne, and Jim; granddaughter, Cameron; sister, Haruko; brother, Hidetoshi; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Kiyoko was loved by many, and she will be missed and remembered by all of us.

The services for Kiyoko will be 10:30AM – 12:00PM, Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at St. Dominic Catholic Church. The burial will be 1:00PM, Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Pikes Peak National Cemetery.
