Lois Ann Mathias
July 14th, 1956 - May 12th, 2025
Lois Ann Mathias, 68, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2025, at Albany Medical Center, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.
Born on July 14, 1956, in Richmond, Virginia, Lois was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Louise (Bradley) Mathias. She graduated from Fonda-Fultonville High School and went on to earn her associate’s degree from Fulton-Montgomery Community College. Lois dedicated nearly three decades of her life to helping others as a case worker with the Montgomery County Department of Social Services, where she worked from 1991 until her retirement in 2020. Always hardworking and compassionate, she also served as a ward clerk at Nathan Littauer Hospital beginning in the early 2000s and continuing until her passing.
Lois had a big heart, a bright smile, and a personality that could light up any room. She loved tending to her garden, finding joy and peace among her flowers and plants. A lifelong fan of country music, her home was often filled with the sounds of her favorite songs. Sundays were reserved for cheering on her beloved Kansas City Chiefs or watching the thrill of a NASCAR race—both of which she never missed.
Above all, Lois was deeply devoted to her family. She was the heart of every gathering, the keeper of traditions, and a source of endless love and encouragement. She was a proud and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
She was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Robert; her brother, David Mathias; and her sister, Terry Pierce Mathias.
Lois leaves behind a legacy of love in her children: Becky (Mike) Leotta, Ron (Melinda) TenEyck, Mindy (Bart) TenEyck, and Duane (Desiree) Mathias. She was a cherished "Grandma" to Marissa (Luke) Dobson, Matthew Dobson, Chayce Leotta, Casondra Courtney, Ryan Courtney, Lexie Warner, Jessalyn Warner, and Landen Cameron; and a joyful "Gigi" to her great-grandchildren: Ezekiel DeVoe, Kieran Courtney, Kinsley Courtney, Y’Voni Davila, Mae’Lanii Willis, Gatlin Godlewski, and Greyson Godlewski. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, starting at 2:00 PM at Lois’s home, 3889 State Highway 10, St. Johnsville, NY 13452.
