Stephen R. Lyon passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the age of 68, in Tucson, Arizona.

Steve was born July 13, 1956, in Portland, Oregon, and grew up there with his parents, two sisters and a brother.

He graduated from Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa. Several months later Steve entered the US Navy and served 30 years, retiring as Captain USN.

After entering the Navy, Steve met his wife Cheryl Lynn Grubbs. It was a joy and privilege for them to serve together. During Steve's career in the Navy, he taught at the United States Naval Academy and served as the Engineering officer on several destroyers. His Navy career allowed Steve to continue with his passion for astronomy and sailing.

In 1996, Steve and Cheryl moved to Tucson where Steve worked in several jobs and continued with his hobbies.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents Richard Howard Lyon and Claudine Mae Weakley Lyon. He is survived by his wife Cheryl Lyon, his sisters Cathy Berk, Sue Contant and husband Martin Contant, and brother Tim Lyon and wife Gwen Lyon, and many nieces and nephews.

Steve was a strong leader, with a loving heart and deep faith for our God. He was loved by family and friends who will greatly miss him.
