Elton Jackson Riner, affectionately known as Jack, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2025, at the age of 82. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and educator, Jack will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous heart, and lifelong dedication to learning and service.

Born on April 6, 1943, in Macon, Georgia, Jack was the son of Elton and Mary Riner. He began his career in education after graduating from Berry College, where he met the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth Stanley — known to most as Beth. They were married shortly after graduation in 1965 and began their journey together both personally and professionally in the field of education.

Their academic pursuits continued with graduate degrees from the University of Georgia, and Jack went on to earn his Doctorate in Education from Georgia State University. Over the course of a distinguished career, Jack served as a Teacher, Director of Vocational Education, and Administrator - most notably in Cobb County, Georgia. His legacy is deeply woven into the students, staff, and programs he inspired and helped build.

After retirement and raising their two children in a home full of laughter, faith, and love, Jack and Beth relocated to Sun City Hilton Head, where they embraced a new chapter of life filled with friendship, community, and travel. Jack’s calm presence and generous spirit continued to enrich the lives of those around him.

Jack is survived by his son, Troy Riner (Brita Riner); and his daughter, Mandy Clifford (Don Clifford). He was a proud grandfather to Jack Clifford, DJ Clifford, and Blaise Riner. He is also survived by his brother, Tom Riner (Bonny Riner); his brother-in-law, Doc Roberts; sisters-in-law Ganelle Roberts, Helen Stanley and Jill Stanley; and several nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Mary Riner, and by his beloved wife, Mary Elizabeth Stanley Riner (Beth).

A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM at The Church of the Cross (Historic Campus), 110 Calhoun Street, Bluffton, SC 29910, where family and friends will gather to celebrate his life and honor the profound impact he made.
