Veronica Helen Schirmer

Veronica Helen Schirmer, 74, passed away unexpectedly on May 11th, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona—her home of nearly five decades. Veronica was the kind of person who lit up any room she walked into. She lived and loved to the fullest, encouraging those around her to smile, cheer, and laugh along. To know her was to fully experience joy, happiness, and a hint of mischief.

When Veronica wasn’t enriching the lives of others, she was traveling. She loved cruising with her husband, Karl, touring all over the world. Veronica had a particular fondness for the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean and the historic charm of the Mediterranean. They completed forty-six cruises in total, exploring many locals including Asia, Northern Europe, and most recently seeing the updates to the Panama Canal. She’d also often travel to Virginia to spend time with her two grandchildren whom she loved dearly.

Prior to setting sail, Veronica was a dedicated stay at home mom who poured everything into her two daughters. She was always there to participate in classroom events, be a chaperone, and was an active “band mom,” supporting her daughters’ love of music. Veronica also worked twenty years at See’s Candies, often bestowing sweet treats on those she loved.

Born October 5th, 1950 in San Francisco, California, Veronica was the daughter of James and Magdelan Howard. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Karl Schirmer; her daughters, Laura (AJ) and Christine (Jake), and two grandchildren, Brooke and Alex. Veronica is also survived by her sister, Mary Ann, and brother, James. She is preceded by her siblings: David, Daniel, and Edward.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date with details forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.
