Julie West Hicks

Julie West Hicks, 59, of Lexington, SC, passed away on May 20, 2025, after an extremely short battle with lung and brain cancer.

Julie was born on May 15, 1966, to Arthur and Mary Jane West in Clemson, SC. At age 2, her family moved to Columbia where she grew up with an older sister and two brothers.

After Julie graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1984, she was eager to get out on her own and did so by getting her first job and her own place in Columbia.  

Julie had two daughters, Audrey of Sangerville, ME and Casey of Northern Cambria, PA.  

Julie had just retired in January of 2025 after 35 years with the South Carolina Department of Education. Since 2008, Julie had worked as a Program Coordinator in the Office of Grant Services where she helped the agency compete successfully for federal and foundation grants to serve public school teachers and students throughout the state.  

Julie was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Mary Jane West and by her ex-husband, Bert. She is survived by her sister, Debbie Petri, brother, Eric West and wife Miranda, brother, Andrew West and wife Radley, daughter Audrey Pelletier and husband Dana, daughter, Casey Hicks, and grandchildren, Aiden and Rayne Pelletier, her Aunt Chrissie O'Kelly, as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.  

A celebration of life will be scheduled for a future date.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The American Cancer Society in Julie's memory.
