Albert J. Sheva, 97, of Washington Township, NJ — Beloved Patriarch, Proud Veteran, and People’s “Mayor”

Albert J. Sheva, affectionately known to many as “The Mayor” for his warm, magnetic personality and gift for conversation, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at the age of 97. A man who never met a stranger, Albert had a rare ability to connect with anyone, always finding common ground and leaving smiles in his wake.

A Life Well Lived

Born in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, and raised in the heart of Philadelphia, Albert carried the grit and heart of his hometowns throughout his life. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II, a chapter that shaped his enduring sense of duty and resilience.

Albert was a passionate golfer, a love he passed on to both his son Greg and his grandson Brett, and a storyteller whose tales were as rich as his laughter was contagious. Whether on the green or at a family gathering, he brought joy, wisdom, and a twinkle of mischief to every moment.

A Legacy of Love

Albert was the devoted husband of the late Gloria Sheva, with whom he shared an extraordinary 73-year love story. Together, they built a family rooted in love, laughter, and loyalty.

He is survived by his loving children, Kathy Baglivo (Vincent) and Gregory Sheva (Karen); his cherished grandchildren Dana, Nicole, Brett (Kelly), and Kyle (Anne); and his adored great-grandchildren Lillian, Parker, and Liam. He also leaves behind step-grandchildren Kaitlyn, Kyle Francis, Sean (Elana), and Kelly, and step-great-grandchildren Kylah, Kieryn, and Kaleb.

Albert was predeceased by his parents, Annie and Adolph Sheva, and his brothers Edwin, Joseph, and John. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched with his kindness, humor, and unwavering love.

A Fond Farewell

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Albert’s life on Thursday, June 5th, with visitation from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at McGuinness Funeral Home (Washington Township Location), 573 Egg Harbor Road, Sewell, NJ. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM, with interment at Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Williamstown, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org, a cause close to Albert’s heart.
