Gertrude (Trudy) Loqa

Gertrude, known as "Trudy," was born on February 9, 1937, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, to George and Lucile (Hytrek) Greenhalgh. Tragically, her father lost his life in a forestry accident shortly after her birth. Demonstrating remarkable strength, her mother moved to Wyoming to live on her grandparents' farm. When Trudy was about three years old, her mother remarried Ivan Gore, which made Trudy the sister of Ivetta (Gore) Watercott. Trudy thrived during her childhood in Wyoming and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Cheyenne. With determination, she earned her bachelor's degree from St. Mary's College in Kansas before moving to Arizona. There, she taught in Helena, Montana, as a nun for several years. Later, she relocated to Colorado to be closer to family. After teaching in Colorado, she decided to move to Tucson, Arizona, where she pursued her master's degree in elementary education. While in Arizona, Trudy met her soulmate, Harith Loqa. The couple married on August 1, 1970, and enjoyed 40 beautiful years together until Harith faced multiple sclerosis and passed away after a courageous battle. Trudy devoted her heart to teaching fourth grade in the Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) for 30 years, inspiring and impacting the lives of countless students. She is survived by her two children, Douglas J. Loqa and Marie T. Loqa, as well as her grandchildren, Tyler A. Loqa and Jayden G. Loqa.
