Eugene "Gene" Garrison Hastings
1928 - 2025
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Eugene“Gene” Garrison Hastings, who left us peacefully on May 18, 2025, at age 96, in Aurora, Colorado. Gene was born on September 14, 1928, in Evanston Illinois, to Carolyn and Dwight Hastings. He was a beloved brother to Donald and Katherine Hastings.Gene graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He dedicated his career to the avionics industry, serving as Manager of International Export Administration at Rockwell Collins.Gene was a proud veteran, serving as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, exemplifying his dedication and patriotism.Gene was an active member of the Presbyterian Church. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially hiking in the Rocky Mountains. Gene loved exploring nature and is most proud of a family hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. He cherished annual summer vacations with his family to Estes Park.Gene is survived by his loving children: Michael Hastings, Steven Hastings (Joanne), Ann Visser (Tim) Douglas Hastings (Joanne) Susan Heikkinen (Mark) and Chris Hastings (Lynne). His grandchildren, Jason and Rachel Visser, Sydney and Ryan Heikkinen, also cherish his memory. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Hastings, and his daughter Carole Hastings. Gene’s family also includes nieces, nephews, and many friends who will miss him dearly.He will be remembered as a man devoted to his family and his country, an individual who made a difference in the lives of many. While he may no longer walk among us, his spirit and memory will forever remain in our hearts.A 20 minute military committal service will be held on June 26, 2025, at 2:30 PM at Fort Logan National Cemetery, where friends and family are welcome to join us in honoring his legacy.In loving memory of Eugene Garrison Hastings, a man of integrity and kindness.
