Mrs. Hazel "Nanny" Smith Platt, 83, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, of West Columbia, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025. Born on August 9, 1941, in Hartsville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Willie Smith and Annie Mae Hall. She was married for 60 years to her late husband, Douglas Platt, Sr. She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and helped run the family business of Platt Land Surveying Company, along with being a dedicated homemaker. Her life revolved around her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was always supportive and encouraging, always wise and kind and so proud of her family. She loved watching sports (especially her Gamecocks and Atlanta Braves), music, cooking and taking care of family. She always sacrificed her needs for others. She is survived by her children: daughter, Rhonda Platt Krause (Joe); sons, Douglas E. Platt Jr., (Sandra), Troy Platt (Melissa); grandchildren, Jonathan Boatwright (Rebekah), Madison Boatwright (Malik), Felicia Long (B.J.), Kraig Crawford (Katie), Crista Oelhafen (Aaron), Dylan Platt, Tyler Platt (Lakyn) and McKenzie Treadaway (Tyler). She was blessed with 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Wanda Melton and Joyce Gainey; brothers, Willie Smith, Jr and Lynwood Smith; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brother, James Smith; sisters, Virginia ‘Jenny’ Board, Bobbie Moody Linton, and Phyllis Teague. She was a dedicated supporter of her community, volunteering her time coaching Midland Girls Softball, and parent teacher organizations.

 

The family will receive friends at Shiloh United Methodist Church, West Columbia, on Tuesday, May 27 at 1:00 pm, with funeral services following at 2:00 pm with Pastor Sandie Stillinger officiating. Immediately following, will be the graveside service at Shiloh United Methodist Church.
