Julia Marilyn McDonald, age 90, passed away on May 7, 2025, in Alabaster Alabama. Born on May 3, 1935, in Mobile, Alabama, Marilyn was a longtime resident of Punta Gorda Florida.

 

Marilyn was a loving daughter of Chester and Virginia Roe, and sister to Virginia Roe Nelson Thompson, Ellen Roe Gambell, Chetta Roe Lutz, and Roy Roe. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years, Ed McDonald. She is survived by children Jack McDonald (Annette) of Kailua, Hawaii, Mike McDonald (Noemi) of Fort Myers Florida, Carol Buchanan (Bobby) of Fort Pierce, Florida and Peggy Herlihy (Jim) of Alabaster, Alabama. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Karen McDonald.

 

Marilyn grew up in Mobile Alabama, attending The Little Flower School, Bishop Toolen High School, and Spring Hill College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology. She served as a social worker in both Alabama and Kentucky before a distinguished career in social work for the state of Florida.  

 

There will be a Memorial Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 211 W. Charlotte Ave, Punta Gorda on Thursday, June 5 at 11:00 AM, followed by inurnment and reception at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, Cemetery and Crematory, 9400 Indian Spring Cemetery Rd, Punta Gorda.

 

Marilyn’s memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved her.
