With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother,  grandmother, and friend, Lucina Meranda Abbott, who departed this life on April 17, 2025 at the age of 70.

Lucina was born on December 12, 1954 in Basseterre, Saint Kitts, to Rita Caines.  Raised in a Caribbean home filled with faith, joy, and laughter, Lucina moved from St. Thomas to The Bronx, New York at the age of 12 where she began building a life rooted in love, resilience, and quiet strength.

She devoted over 20 years of her life to the healthcare profession, serving as a resident care professional at North Port Pines.  In this role, she compassionately cared for elderly residents, offering support, companionship, and dignity.  Lucina was also a creative entrepreneur who owned and operated a boutique in Punta Gorda, and later worked alongside Deloris Waul in Port Charlotte, Florida, bringing her love for fashion and service to her community.

Lucina was the proud mother of three children — Roxanne, Anthony, and    Matthew — and the deeply cherished grandmother of five grandchildren:  Persiah, Cassidy, Malachi, Arya, and Jeremiah.  Her family was her greatest joy, and she created lasting memories filled with warmth, wisdom, and love.

A woman of unwavering Christian faith, Lucina’s life was guided by her belief in God’s promises.  Her favorite scripture Isaiah 41:10, provided her strength and comfort: "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10

She found joy in the simple things: gardening, listening to gospel, R&B,    reggae, and soca music (especially on The Joy FM), watching NBA and WNBA games (with a special love for LeBron James), and sharing Christmas, her favorite holiday with her children and grandchildren.  Her late-night shopping trips, family movie marathons, and quiet laughter will be remembered    forever.

She is preceded in death by loved ones and is survived by her mother Rita Caines, her children Roxane, Anthony, and Matthew, her grandchildren   Persiah, Cassidy, Malachi, Arya, and Jeremiah, and many extended family and friends who were touched by her life.

Though she has left this earth, Lucina Meranda Abbott’s legacy lives on in the love she gave, the lives she nurtured, and the faith she carried so gracefully.  She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
