                                                      Lou Ann DeLozier

                                             March 29, 1928 – May 28, 2025

Lou Ann DeLozier, age 97, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025, closing a remarkable life enveloped in love, faith, resilience, and quiet humor. Born on March 29, 1928, in Wausa, Nebraska, she was the second of five children in a proud Swedish-American farming family.

Baptized and confirmed at Tabor Lutheran Church, Lou Ann was deeply rooted in her Christian faith from an early age. Her upbringing on the Nebraska prairie was rich with the values of simplicity, hard work, and familial closeness. Life’s early lessons were learned while trudging two miles to school through snow, raising chickens for egg money, and making a playground out of the farm—walking on stilts, rolling inside tractor tires, and playing with her siblings.

In the 1940s, Lou Ann completed a six-week teacher training course and began teaching in a one-room schoolhouse. She would later laugh about how a world map hung on the wrong wall left her with a lifelong challenge sensing direction. While she didn’t feel comfortable or confident as a teacher, she showed up, did the work, and carried those experiences with her to a life beyond the Nebraska plains.

Lou Ann met her future husband, Howard DeLozier, in a park where he offered to take her photograph—his clever excuse to see her again. Their connection grew quickly. Howard moved to Colorado for engineering training at Colorado A&M (now CSU), and during a visit, Lou Ann knew she didn’t want to leave. The two eloped in 1949 and were married for 68 years until Howard’s passing in 2017.

Together, they built a life of dedication and adventure. Lou Ann supported Howard in launching his own construction company, while she remained the rock at home, raising their three children and orchestrating countless opportunities for their growth and learning. As an example of her constant thoughtfulness and kindness towards others, she baked cinnamon rolls and cookies for neighbors, friends, and her children’s schools, and she offered support in the most humble, steadfast ways—visits, care packages, and quiet acts of kindness.

Lou Ann was a woman of contrasts and depth; strong and stubborn, yet patient and forgiving. She was fiercely independent but profoundly compassionate. Lou Ann was a proud homemaker, a dedicated member of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 60 years, and someone who always made space for others at her table and in her heart.

She and Howard shared a love for antique cars and were longtime members of multiple antique auto clubs, which led them on tours and car meets throughout the United States. At home, Lou Ann was a devoted sports fan, cheering on the Denver Nuggets, the Rockies, and the Broncos with loyal enthusiasm.

Lou Ann is survived by her sister, Bonnie Bee Suhr of Wausa, Nebraska; her three children: Lynne DeLozier of Fort Collins, Colorado; Sheryl DeLozier Meyer, currently living in Tunisia, Africa; and Jerry DeLozier of Telluride, Colorado. She also leaves behind four beloved grandchildren—Ethan Vega, Chelah Ryan, Uriah Ward, and Annelise Meyer—and eight great-grandchildren who were blessed by her presence and legacy.

Lou Ann DeLozier lived a life of quiet strength and faithful service. She will be remembered for her deep love of family and her unwavering support of those around her.

A celebration of her life will be held in the coming days. In the meantime, her family and friends find comfort in knowing she is reunited with Howard—and that their map of eternity, at last, is perfectly placed
