Celeste Love Thurman, a devoted mother and fierce believer in her children, passed away on May 24, 2025, in Denver, Colorado, after a long and courageous battle with dementia and Alzheimer’s. She was 80 years old.

Born and raised in North Little Rock, Arkansas, Celeste’s life was rooted in warmth, grit, and a sense of justice. She raised her family in both North Little Rock and the farming town of Lonoke, Arkansas, nurturing her children with the same care and determination she gave her garden—where everything she touched flourished.

A true Southern original, Celeste grew up riding horses, barrel racing, and water skiing. She enjoyed watching her family’s horses race trackside at Oaklawn Park, where horses bred and trained by her father competed—including Wa Wa Cessie, a beloved horse named in her honor that went on to win several races.

Later in life, she moved to Denver to be closer to her adult children. Her love for politics and the news never waned; she was an avid news hound and relished every moment of White House Christmas parties and those on the South Lawn—never missing the eggnog or a good story.

Celeste’s greatest legacy lives in her three children. Her unwavering belief in them gave them confidence, courage, and the strength to chase their own dreams. Her laughter was full-hearted and unforgettable, a sound that brought warmth to any room.

Celeste was preceded in death by her parents, John Brodie Thurman and Celeste Cox Thurman Warren. She is survived by her daughter, Celeste Thurman Archer (Shawn) of College Station, Texas, and her sons, James Nickel Thurman (Jennifer) and Michael Brodie Thurman (Abbie Jahn), both of Denver, Colorado. She also leaves behind five grandchildren— Lauren Erhart, Isaac Daumler, Jack Thurman, Hagan Thurman Archer, and Sam Thurman—each of whom carries forward her spirit, grit, and determination.

A private celebration of life will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
