Robert Tillman Shore
January 28th, 1942 - May 27th, 2025
Robert Tillman Shore, 83, of Charlotte, North Carolina, departed this life on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at The Cypress of Charlotte.
Robert was born on January 28, 1942 in Greensboro, NC to Burwell John Shore, II and Phena Tillman Shore. Robert attended Myers Park High School in Charlotte and graduated from Bristol High School after his family relocated. He then attended Lenoir-Rhyne University, where he played football and graduated with a degree in economics. Robert’s football career at Lenoir-Rhyne University included a 12-0 undefeated season on the 1960 team that went on to secure the NAIA National Title.
After graduating from college, Robert’s first job was with the Scott Paper Company as a sales representative. Robert then co-founded a food brokerage business in Bristol, Tennessee with his Cousin Eddie Whittaker. Robert continued his career in the food brokerage business after returning to Charlotte, North Carolina in the mid-1980s, and then transitioned careers mid-life, passing the CFP exam and becoming a Certified Financial Planner. Robert was a member of The Teague Group for many years, and then a partner in his own firm, Fairview Strategic Planning, before retiring in 2021. Robert also was an active member at his church, Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, as well as the Kiwanis Club of Charlotte.
Robert was a loving husband, doting father and grandfather and steadfast friend. He enjoyed playing golf, spending time with his friends and family, grilling out, rocking in his rocking chair, and listening to music. He also loved to travel and was always up for an adventure, whether it be cruising to Alaska, snowmobiling and snowtubing with his grandchildren in the mountains or spending time with his family at the beach. Throughout his life, Robert had a playful nature that helped him to stay young at heart, cracking jokes into his last days and greeting the loving nurses and staff at The Cypress with his signature “Howdy Doody”. His enduring optimism, positive spirit and bright light have left a lasting impression on all of those who knew him, and will be sorely missed.
Preceding him in death were his second wife of 25 years, Ingrid Kemp Shore, his two biological children, John Shore and Alys Shore, his stepson Thomas Dupre (“Troy”) Hall, his brother Burwell Shore and his parents. Surviving are his first wife Jane Shore, two stepsons, Rupert Theodore (“TJ”) Hall, David Kemp Hall and daughter Lynne Shore Wakefield, along with their families, including ten grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 4 at 1:00 p.m. at Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church, followed by a reception and visitation in the fellowship hall.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203.
