Earl Dexter Freeman
January 22nd, 1932 - May 25th, 2025
Earl Freeman, 93, a hardworking and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, at Pineville Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina—the city where he was born and spent most of his life. He shared 56 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Frances Freeman.
Earl was preceded in death by Frances; his parents, Eunice and Clyde Freeman; his son, Herbert Freeman; and his daughter-in-law, Kimberly Freeman (Douglas’s wife).
He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Ivan Broadwell; his brother, Kenneth Freeman; and his sons and their spouses: Ida (Herbert’s wife), David and Kathy, Robert and Lindy, Douglas, Michael, and Bradford and Nicole Freeman. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild—each a part of his lasting legacy.
Earl spent many years working as an HVAC installer with Climate Systems, earning a reputation for his strong work ethic and unwavering reliability. His work brought him into businesses throughout Charlotte and beyond, and he took great pride in both the quality of his work and the friendships he built along the way.
Over the years, Earl picked up a wide range of skills across many trades—he could fix, build, or improve just about anything. He was always willing to lend a hand or offer advice, and many people came to rely on his practical knowledge and capable hands.
Earl had a generous heart and a sharp, often unexpected sense of humor that could light up a room. He was old-fashioned in the best way—steady, dependable, and grounded in his values. He loved his family deeply, and held a special place in his heart for his wife’s family as well, embracing them as his own.
He was also a great cook who found joy in feeding others—especially at Sunday dinners and during the holidays, which he cherished with all his heart. Earl enjoyed gardening and always made sure the birds and hummingbirds were fed and welcomed.
He will be remembered not only for how hard he worked, but for how deeply he loved. His loyalty, strength, quiet kindness, practical wisdom, and well-timed jokes made a lasting impact on all who knew him.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 1st, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 2nd, with burial to follow. Services will be held at Tribute and Talent Funerals & Cremations.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, a cause that was close to his heart.
Earl Freeman leaves behind a legacy of dedication, resilience, laughter, and love. A man whose presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered
