John Dallas Cherry Jr, 98, of Loveland passed away Sunday May 25, 2025, at Banner North Colorado Medical Center, Greeley, Co.  He was born April 27th, 1927, to John Cherry and Leda Haugen. He graduated high school in Omaha, Neb.

Staff Sergeant Cherry honorably served his country in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 as a medic with the 4th Infantry Division. Stationed at Hutier Kaserne in Hanau, Germany. He was known to his unit as Doc, and that nickname remained with him after his time in service. He was a member of the American Legion. On August 5, 1950, he married Threasa (Pat) Spittler in Brock, Nebraska.  They moved to Loveland in 1960 and moved into their forever home in Loveland in 1961 where they raised their children and many other that called him “Dad/Grandpa”.

John was a talented carpenter and auto mechanic who could fix almost anything. His passion was photography. He had an eye for capturing life in the lens of his many cameras. He once had the opportunity to photograph the comedy duo Abbot and Costello. He was also involved with the Cub Scouts and Webelos. He and Pat loved their time going to garage sales on Saturday mornings. There were many times that the whole family would load up in the truck with a picnic and be out all day going to garage sales and making memories.

He was preceded in death by his wife Pat on June 5th, 2005. He is survived by his five children, Linda Harrison (husband Lanny Harrison) of Round Rock, Tx., Louis Cherry and (wife Kathy Cherry) of Loveland, Co., Lester “Les” Cherry (wife Vicki Cherry) of Loveland, Co., Larry Cherry of Billings, Mo., and Lillian Cherry (husband Gary Bergmann) Loveland, Co. John also is survived by his eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.  He is preceded by his parents, two brothers and one sister, and one Daughter-in-law, Vicki Cherry.

There will be no funeral as this was a final request by him. The family asks them to just remember John and smile. He will be missed by all, but he is now with his lovely bride, family, and the Lord.
