Jim Hogan was born in Roseau, Minnesota, to Hazel Adaline Cudd Hogan and Francis “Frank” Matthew Hogan. He is survived by his wife, Laura Evelyn Lipp Hogan nee Jones; daughter Lynne M. Hogan of Seattle and her partner, Wally Liedke; stepsons Brian Lipp of Fife, Craig Lipp/daughter-in-law Leesha Wilkens-Lipp of Woodinville, Jeffrey Lipp of Auburn; stepdaughter Karla Lipp of Boulder, CO; daughter-in-law Rebecca Wilson of San Jose, CR; grandchildren Ashlee and Nichole Lipp of Woodinville, Sommer Hogan of Paterson, NJ, and Angel Wilson of Limon, CR; brother Robert “Bob” P. Hogan/partner Linda Bealmear of Aloha, OR; nephews Patrick F. Hogan/wife Laura Hogan and Michael J. Hogan/wife Tammie Hogan of Seattle. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steven J. Hogan, brother Dwain “Bud” F. Hogan; sister Patricia Hogan; sister-in-law Patricia D. Fortin Hogan.

While growing up, his father Frank’s career as a U.S. Border Patrol Inspector took the family to several border towns, including Linden and Blaine, Washington. Jim graduated from Blaine High School and began college at St. Martin’s University in Lacey as a chemistry major, before transferring to the University of Washington, where he earned a B.A. in Business Administration.

He served two years in the U.S. Army at Fort Lewis before joining The Boeing Company as a Computer Engineer. Jim fondly recalled one of his early promotions, which came with a celebratory dinner at Canlis with his co-workers—perhaps one of the many reasons he stuck with Boeing for his entire career. He retired in 1996 as a Systems Analyst Manager.

Jim and Laura married on October 10, 1981. They lived in Fife, then Kent, and eventually settled in Federal Way for the last few years. After retiring, they traveled the world together, having many fun adventures over the next 20 years, which included international motorcycle races, river cruises and pulling their trailer around the U.S. For the past nine years, they were snowbirds at the Arizonian RV

Resort in Gold Canyon, AZ, where they shared time with treasured friends, and enjoyed great cocktail hours and hundreds of sunsets.

Jim got his first motorcycle at age fourteen, sparking a lifelong affair with two wheels and dirt. He spent a few years flat track racing in the 1950s, and raced amateur motocross for four more decades. He was consistently one of the fastest riders in the Oregon Desert Racing Association (ODRA), achieving the #1 position for multiple consecutive years in the 1970s. Jim was still riding near the Superstition Mountains in Arizona as recently as September 2024—at the age of 90.

All are welcome to attend a graveside service on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Gethsemane Catholic Cemetery, located at 37600 Pacific Highway South, Federal Way, WA 98003.

Jim will be remembered in prayer during Masses at his parish St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Federal Way, Washington, on May 31st and June 1st, 2025.

Memorial donations can be made to St. Vincent de Paul of Seattle/King County https://svdpseattle.org/donatetous/
