What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others - Pericles

Judith Ellen Hollar was born October, 27, 1935 in Laramie, Wyoming.  At the age of seven, Judy moved with her family to Portland, Oregon and Hillsboro, where she grew up as the younger child of Henry and Alma Knight. Judy attended Oregon State University, and received a bachelor's and master's degree in education from Pacific Lutheran University and the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington.

Judy adapted to many changes in her life.  As an elementary school teacher in the Olympia School District and a specialist in reading and language arts at Charles Wright Academy in Tacoma, Washington, Judy was known for her calm nature, fairness and dedication to her students.  Later in life, she had careers in managing a pediatric ophthalmologist's office in Redmond, WA and as the supervisor in Continuing Education at Bellevue Community College.

Judy raised three sons after the death of her husband, Melvin Joe Hollar.  She later retired in Olympia, Washington in 1995.  As a retiree, she was a hospice, church and community volunteer, enjoyed group singing and her grandchildren's activities.  Altruistic by nature, she loved the ordinary moments of listening to others and doing something for someone else.  All of her many later years were spent happily at Panorama.

Judy will be remembered for her deep kindness, quiet strength, and thoughtfulness that touched everyone she met. She had a gentle, loving presence and was always quick to notice and care for the needs of others. Whether offering a handwritten note, a warm meal, or a listening ear, she made people feel seen and valued. Her steady love and selfless spirit were gifts to her family, friends, and community.

Judy's survivors include sons Peter (Laura) of Gig Harbor, Dwight (Stacia) of Washougal, WA and Dan (Betty) of Boise, Idaho, eight grandchildren: Courtney, Benjamin, Katie (Andreas), Jonathan, Emma, Devan, Sara (Lisseth), Kendra, two nieces and one nephew. Judy is preceded by her sister M. Jean Winjum and brother-in-law Jack Winjum.
