LCDR (Ret) John M. Britain III, 86, of Viera, FL passed away May 6, 2025. John was born August 24th, 1938, to John and Frances, in Waco, TX.
At 18 years old he entered the Navy and became a Hard Hat Diver, mostly serving in the Mediterranean. He fought in the Vietnam War where he was awarded a Purple Heart for his injuries and several other medals. He retired from the Navy March 1, 1985, with his last commission in Gitmo Bay Cuba.
After retiring he owned a marina in the Keys of Florida where he met and later married Tonia in Key West.
John leaves behind his beloved wife, Tonia; daughters: Deborah Thomas (Kerry), Lena Hall (Donny), and Kimberly Joseph; and son: John M. Britain IV (Melissa); 6 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, June 22,2025 at 1 pm at the Grand Isle Clubhouse.
A private inurnment will be held the following day at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.
