Shizuko Nakamura
July 10th, 1932 - May 31st, 2025
Shizuko Nakamura, 92, lived a life full of generosity, gratitude, and quiet strength. Born on July 10, 1932, in Houghton, Washington, she was the fifth child of Kameji and Haru Yabuki.
Shizuko attended elementary school in Kirkland, Washington, until 1942, when her schooling was interrupted by Executive Order 9066. This order resulted in her family's relocation to an internment camp during World War II. A year later, Shiz and her family resettled in Weiser, Idaho—a place that became her lifelong home.
She graduated from Weiser High School in 1950, serving as class president her senior year. After high school, Shiz attended business schools in Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington. In 1954, she married Sut Nakamura, and together they built a life of family, farming, and service. In addition to working alongside Sut on the family farm, Shiz worked as a secretary at Pioneer School, where she lovingly served students and staff for 12 years.
In her 92 years, Shiz left a lasting impact on the community through her selflessness, compassion, and grace. She led an extraordinary life dedicated to helping others by sharing everything she had and bringing people together.
She is survived by her son, Tommy (Kathy); daughters Cindy Schlegel (David) and Sally Bouvia(Kevin); eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; her brother, Ken Yabuki; sisters-in-law Sachi Wong (George) and Myndee Nakamura; and many beloved nieces and nephews who brought her great joy. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sut; three sisters; and one brother.
In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Snake River JACL Scholarship Fund, PO Box 637, Ontario, Oregon 97914, or toward Buddy Benches at Pioneer School—a lasting tribute to her love for children. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Lore Wootten and the Two Rivers Medical Clinic for their compassionate care. We especially thank Xiomara Ortega and the dedicated staff at Canyon Home Care and Hospice, Cornerstone Caregiving, and Weiser Memorial Hospital. All your kindness, dedication, and support will never be forgotten. You truly made a difference, and we are forever grateful.
Shiz often shared a simple truth that reflected her life:“Complaining only leads to more complaints, but gratitude and laughter lead to happiness.

We Entrusted Shizuko Nakamura's Care To
Thomason Funeral Home
For more than 100 years, the Thomason Funeral Home has worked to help the Weiser community heal after loss. We help families plan funerals, cremation services, and celebration of life services. Our story began in 1910 when Lloyd Northam opened the doors at the site now occupied by the current Weiser Elk’s Lodge. Since then, the business has had several names, partnerships, and owners. Among them was Dale Thomason, our namesake, who began working at the funeral home in the mid-1940s and purchased the home as a family business to run with his son. At Thomason, we focus on helping your family with personalized care. We do everything we can to provide professional, compassionate support to every family that trusts us with their funeral arrangements. Along with our sister location in Ontario, Oregon, we help Treasure Valley families connect, honor, and remember their loved ones....
