Sarah Robinson
October 13th, 1933 - May 27th, 2025
Sarah Robinson was born in Richmond County, NC on October 13, 1933, to Jim Henry and Janie (Ingram) Robinson. She departed this life on May 27, 2025, at the Cedar Hill Center in Clemmons NC, after years of declining health.
Sarah completed elementary and secondary education at the Ellerbe Colored High School in Ellerbe NC, and in 1958 completed postsecondary study at Talladega College in Talladega Alabama, earning a Bachelor of Arts – Social Work. While in college, she developed lifelong friendships and a commitment to service as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
She traveled the world and lived in many US cities and abroad for a short period in Switzerland. Ultimately Sarah moved to California and began a career as a Social Worker with Los Angeles County Juvenile Courts. A dedicated advocate for the children whose cases were assigned to her, she worked fearlessly to ensure the wellbeing of children, whether through adoption, foster care placement, or in efforts to strengthen family connections. She loved education, earning a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from California State University in 1980.
Upon retirement from Los Angeles County, she returned to NC sharing her time with family and friends. She was a sports enthusiast, having played basketball and tennis as a youth and young adult. She was passionate about politics, and would engage in lively, colorful discussions with anyone around her. She loved casinos and fine dining, often relaxing with a glass of wine.
Sarah was predeceased by her beloved parents; sisters, Annie McCullough, Alberta Robinson, and Hazel Legrande; and brothers, Walter Robinson, and James Henry (Bro Jim) Robinson. Her memory is cherished by a sister, Ida Legrande of Mt. Gilead, NC; a brother, Johnny Ray (Burnette) Robinson of Greensboro, NC; and a number of nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends.
