Mementos

Old soldiers never die, they simply fade away.

Ray was born July 22, 1940 in Gardnerville, NV. He grew up in La Puente, California and graduated from El Monte High School in 1958. Soon after graduation he joined the U.S Army and served a total of 20 plus years retiring at the rank of Sergeant First Class. His service included many duty sites within the United Sates and overseas, including a tour of duty in Vietnam 1968-69. After retiring from military service in 1982, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Post Secondary Education at the University of Southern Mississippi. In 1987 he began a career as an IT Specialist with Department of Defense MEGA Center, Kelly AFB, San Antonio, TX. In 2004, after retiring from civil service, he and his wife, Bobbie, moved to Mississippi to be closer to other family members. In Mississippi, he served with the Red Cross in disaster relief and was an active member in Petal United Methodist church. He moved to Tennessee in 2021 with Bobbie so that she could be close to her mountains and homeplace. Ray was an avid reader and was a fan of old movies, especially any films with John Wayne as the actor. His hobbies included photography, assembling models and puzzles. He loved to bake and took great pride in his chocolate chip cookies. Ray was devoted to his children and grandchildren and was proud of their accomplishments.

Ray was proceeded in death by his father, Arthur Miller, his mother, Zesta Miller, and his brothers Johnny Miller and Truman Miller. Those who will love, cherish, and miss him terribly include his wife of 58 years, Bobbie Miller, of Church Hill, TN, his son Jay Miller, of San Antonio, TX, his daughter, Kim Miller Graham (William “Monty” Graham) of Edgewater, MD, and granddaughters Hannah Johnson of Chicago, IL, and Elizabeth “Ebby” Johnson of Tampa, FL, as well as dear friends who have become family. Rest well, dearest Ray.
