Warden Miller Scott, of Loveland, Colorado, former longtime resident of Grand Junction, Colorado, passed away on May 27, 2025 while holding the hand of his beloved wife, Barbara. Ward succumbed to advanced Parkinson’s disease which he fought hard against for the past 10 years of his life. He is survived by his wife of 61 years and his daughter, Susan Aronson (Steve) of Fort Collins and son, Russell Scott (Robin) of Tucson and grandchildren.

Ward was born September 15, 1937 in Allerton, Iowa. He, and his sister Beth, were raised in Fort Collins. After graduating from the Colorado School of Mines, Ward was an engineer and Airborne Ranger in the US Army, stationed in Germany. There he met his beautiful wife, Barbara. After living in several places and doing a variety of jobs, they settled in Grand Junction. There he and Barbara raised their children while he worked as a real estate broker. He volunteered in multiple community organizations including the Lion’s Club, the Board of Realtors, Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, and Hospice. He was especially proud of his work as a chairman on the Colorado Riverfront Commission starting in 1987. The Commission was instrumental in purchasing and cleaning up polluted river front property to create natural and recreational spaces. He loved to play as hard as he worked: picnicking and hiking in the Colorado National Monument, exploring the Desert Southwest, taking annual trips to Lake Powell, skiing on water and snow, dancing with his wife, traveling with the “Road Runners”, entertaining friends, and painting. Ward had a huge zest for life and desire to connect with others. His passing leaves a large vacuum, but the magnitude of the waves he created in life will surely fill it.

A memorial service is scheduled for June 5, 2025 at 2:30 at Good Samaritan Village, Loveland, Colorado. Correspondence with the family can be sent to Viegut Funeral Home, 1616 N. Lincoln Ave, Loveland, CO, 80538.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to PBS, Catholic Outreach in Grand Junction or One Riverfront in Grand Junction.
