Julius "Jay" Duane Jared
August 1st, 1939 - May 28th, 2025
Julius D Jared, AKA Jay, was born in a log cabin in Ada, Oklahoma on August 1, 1939. He was the youngest of three children born to Ada Oklahoma Fears and William Jasper Davis Jared. He joined his older brother Billy Phillip and his older sister Dora Frances. When Jay was five, the family moved to Washington State. Riding in the back of a stake bed truck and camping, the family traveled with another 5-member family in a Grapes of Wrath adventure. Jay remembered seeing the airplanes at Warren Airfield, Wyoming.
Jay graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1957. He attended Wenatchee Junior College and graduated from the University of Washington in 1963. One of the high points of his military career was attending Harvard Business School graduating with an MBA. It was during his last year at UW; he met Ellen Marjorie Robb. They were married November 17, 1963, in Sheridan Wyoming.
Jay joined the US Air Force in August 1963 and served his country, retiring after 20 years with the
rank of Major in1983. Jay then worked for Boeing for almost 20 years in Wichita, KS, Huntsville AL, and finally Seattle. In 2002, after the loss of the JSF- Joint Strike Fighter, Jay retired from Boeing and enjoyed traveling, writing, wood turning, and just life in general. He was known for his jokes and sense of humor. Jay is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ellen, a daughter, Christine Jared-Bjornson (Michael) and a son Robert Jared. And four delightful grandchildren: Maia, Jared, Erin, and Colin.
