In Loving Memory

Margaret “Pickle” Hatchell Arant, 78, of Gaston, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025.

Born in December 1946, she was the youngest daughter of Arthur and Willa Hatchell. Margaret grew up in Olympia, SC, surrounded by the love of her four older sisters. She graduated from Olympia High School and went on to become a dedicated Surgical Technician before devoting her time to raising her three children with her beloved husband, Larry Arant.

Margaret had a deep love for cooking and baking—always ready with something warm from the oven to share with family and friends. Her creative spirit shone through her love of crafting, especially scrapbooking, crocheting, and many other handmade projects. A passionate family historian, Margaret spent countless hours researching and preserving the stories of the Hatchell and Arant families.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Arant; granddaughter, Renee Grace; and her sisters, Catherine Rauch, Nancy Arlene, and Jackie Bauer.

Margaret leaves behind her sister, Barbara “Tiny” Gamble; daughters, Mechell Arant and Mironda Arant-Estep; son, Wayne Arant; sons-in-law, Joe Cahill and Joshua Estep; daughter-in-law, Ryan Arant; grandchildren, Joshua Cook (Jessica Britton), Jacob Jezzard, Rachel (Jezzard) Hallman (husband, Jordon Hallman), Larry Arant III (wife, Faeryn Arant), Vince Harper (Hope Downs), Alex Harper, Sara Arant, and Ruthie Arant; great-grandchildren, Laydehn and June; cherished family friends, Brenda and James Chavis; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews who brought her endless joy.

Visitation will be held at Thompson Funeral Home in Lexington, SC, on Friday, June 6th, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. A celebration of Margaret’s life will take place at Sharon Crossroads United Methodist Church in Swansea, SC, on Saturday, June 7th, at 11:00 AM, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Margaret will be remembered for her warmth, creativity, and unwavering love for her family. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and cherished memories.
