Glenna Marie Dunn Sizemore
January 18th, 1928 - June 4th, 2025
“A garden of love grows in a grandmother's heart.”
Glenna Marie Dunn Sizemore, age 97, passed away Wednesday morning June 4, 2025 at her home surrounded by family after complications from a fall injury in previous weeks. Glenna was born January 18, 1928 to Fannie M. Holland Dunn and Coy Lee Dunn in the Jearoldstown community of Greene County, TN and graduated from Baileyton High School. She worked at Woolworth’s in Greeneville as a teenager during WWII and then at Tennessee Eastman Co. for almost ten years, meeting her future husband Avery Sizemore there. They married on December 21, 1947 and she continued at TEC until the birth of their first son in 1957. After her two sons grew to high school age, she went back to work at ITT North Electric for several years before retiring.
She had been a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church since 1952 during the big revival. She attended faithfully until the pandemic but always listened to the church’s Sunday morning service live radio broadcasts up until recent weeks. She always enjoyed visits from all her grandchildren, gardening and her flowers to the end.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two siblings, Neva Hein and Hugh Dunn; her husband, Avery Sizemore; and youngest son, Jack C. Sizemore.
Survivors include her son; David A. Sizemore (Sherri); six grandchildren, Dominique Chitwood (Andrew), Hunter Sizemore (Chelsea), Ian Sizemore (Brandi), Meghan Mims (Thomas), Kelley Sizemore and Leah Sizemore; seven great-grandchildren, Canaan, River, Jonah, Thatcher, Kasal, Maci and Bridger. She’s also survived by her faithful canine companion of seventeen years, Lucy.
The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 7 pm on Monday, June 9, 2025 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 pm on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50 pm.
