The Island Funeral Home & Crematory
Susan "Sue" Plant Britt
October 21st, 1934 - May 23rd, 2025
Susan Plant Britt was born on October 21, 1934, in Sacramento California, and was welcomed into the throne room of Jesus, her Messiah, on May 23, 2025, journeying to heaven from Hilton Head, South Carolina.
The daughter of Irish and German immigrants, her parents never imagined the impact their little girl would have on the world. Growing up, She traveled across the globe and adventured in the parks and wharfs of San Francisco, a city that always held her heart. Her travels continued with her young family and brought her to Singapore, where her life changed forever.
In Singapore she met Nelson Britt, the love of her life. Their marriage in 1975 blended their two families. Nelson walked beside her, loved her, supported her and was her best friend throughout their marriage, which ended sixteen months ago when Nelson went home to heaven. More importantly, they both met Jesus Christ, who called them together as disciples and sent them to minister in his name. Sue and Nelson ministered together, while wisely recognizing and utilizing their unique spiritual gifts.
For forty-five years, Sue told people about Jesus. Her journeys took her to Canada and Miami, before they returned to Singapore. Everywhere she lived, she taught Bible studies and poured her life into the people she met, helping them to develop a saving faith in Christ. Across continents and in dozens of countries, Sue led people to Jesus, who then shared the love of God with others. In Hilton Head, she volunteered tirelessly at St. Luke’s, running the bookstore and gift shop, teaching Sunday School and leading Bible studies. She was also active in the Foreign Affairs Counsel, PEO and never missed an opportunity to get together with “her ladies.” She lived a full life!
Over the last five years, Sue experienced dementia. Although robbed of her short-term memory, the past and her faith were at the forefront of her mind. She often shared the love of God with the incredible staff at the Preston health Center, who cared for her and loved her as if she was their own mom. After losing Nelson, her health faltered, and she grew tired. Last month, her three children visited her together. She made it clear that she was ready to go home and often reminded Jesus of that fact.
Comfortably napping, she left for her final journal. We’re sure that when Jesus took her into his arms, restoring her mind and healing her body, Nelson was hugging her as well. Above the noise of Heaven’s feast, she heard Jesus whisper, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
