Sonia Marie VanderBloomer

Sonia Marie VanderBloomer was called home to our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. She was 85 years old. Sonia leaves behind her beloved and devoted husband of 64 years, Kenneth. She will be remembered for her love of God, love of family and a love of life that energized a room. Mourning the loss include her son Mark VanderBloomer and wife Julie (MN) and daughter Peggy Day and husband Ned (NC). Sonia was blessed with 5 granddaughters: Jessica VanderBloomer (MN), Katie Johnson and husband Ben (WI), Stephanie Behling and husband Ryan (WI), Kimberly Day (NC) and Michelle Day (NC). She was further blessed with 2 great grandsons: Markus Johnson (WI) and Tait Johnson (WI).

Sonia was the first of 3 children born to Nicolas and Helen Nester in Chicago, Illinois. (Both deceased). She had 2 brothers: Stephen Nester (deceased) and Michael Nester (CA). Carrying forward the Nester name include nephew Keith Nester (CA), nephew Kevin Nester and wife Courtney (AZ), great niece Clara Nester (AZ) and great nephew Kolton Nester (AZ).

Sonia met the man she would marry while working at the CB&Q Railroad. Upon marrying, she devoted her life to her husband and raising their children. She discovered her talent for interior decorating & silk floral design and launched a successful silk floral business in the 1980s in Kansas City. Sonia and Ken traveled extensively throughout Europe, North America and the Caribbean in their later years.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 11:00 am at Santa Catalina Catholic Church in Tucson, Arizona.
