Wille Griffith Cambpell, Jr., (BUDDY) age 87, passed away on June 11, 2025, in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. He was born on March 31, 1938.

Wille, affectionately known as Buddy, lived a life marked by his likable and outgoing personality, deep love for his family, passion for the outdoors and art. Buddy attended Mt. Pleasant Elementary and Moultrie High School in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. He furthered his education at Trident Technical College. His career spanned various roles, most notably in food sales where he worked with companies like Sealtest, Tetley, and as a seafood purveyor for many of Charleston’s fine restaurants. Buddy was frequently recognized as a top salesman, a testament to his dedication and skill in his field. He also, along with his son, Bud, operated a lawn care business for several years. He served in the Army National Guards from 1961 to 1966, where he committed five years to serving his country with distinction.

Buddy was a devout member of Key Largo Baptist Church for over 20 years and later First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant, SC., reflecting his commitment to faith throughout his life.

An avid fisherman, Buddy spent many years fishing in the creeks and ocean surrounding Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island. He and his family also cherished 22 years of fishing and living in Key Largo. Buddy, along with his wife, enjoyed extensive traveling throughout the country, including Alaska, by motorhome or truck camper. He also enjoyed numerous cruises taken during the years to the Caribbean, Alaska and also Hawaii.

Besides fishing, Buddy was a talented watercolor artist, taking joy in creating art pieces and generously giving them away, spreading beauty and happiness.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Byrtie Altman Campbell; daughter, Martine (Marti) McPherson and her husband David; son Wille Griffith Campbell III (Bud) and his wife Rhonda; grandchildren Ellori McPherson, McKenzie Campbell, Trinity Campbell, Mason Campbell, Lindsey Sheleby (Mike), Dylan Decker (Courtney), and Alexandria Decker and six great-grandchildren. His brother, Ronald (Ronnie) Campbell (Elaine) and his sister, Donna (Donnie) Campbell Cranston (Buzz), and several nieces and nephews including Kelley Lamsens, Justin Granet and Kevin Campbell. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Beulah B. Campbell and Wille Griffith Campbell Sr., and his nephew Chris Campbell.

A service to celebrate Buddy’s life is being planned, and will be held in July, at First Baptist Church on McCants Drive in Mt. Pleasant SC. Future arrangements will be shared by the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice or Tunnels to Towers, organizations that reflect his compassionate spirit.
