Mary Ann McDermott

Mary Ann (Mengis) McDermott, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at Prelude Homes & Services in Woodbury, MN on Sunday, June 8, 2025 at the age of 93. Mary Ann was born on June 20, 1931 to Ferdinand & Patricia (Roberts) Mengis in Winnebago, MN. Mary Ann is survived by her children: John McDermott; Patricia (Greg) Kuehl; Theresa McDermott; her grandchildren: Mike (Elizabeth) McDermott, Melanie (Justin) Gross, Matt (Ginger) Kuehl, Cristy (Alex) Kulzer, Jillian (Chris) Rocco, Paul Rubbert, Kelley (Amber) Rubbert, Tyler (Amanda) Rubbert; her great-grandchildren; Cooper, Callie, Willa, Hallie, Addison, Avery, Andrew, Ruby, Marley, Rhen; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her son Michael McDermott, brothers James (Eileen) Mengis, Thomas (LaVonne) Mengis, and daughter-in-law Debra McDermott.

Mary Ann graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1949 and went on to attend St. Catherine's School of Nursing. She worked at St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo, IA, and later at 3M in St. Paul, where she served as an office administrator in the Medical Department.

She loved golfing, traveling, cruising, and sailing in the Caribbean. She was an avid reader and enjoyed meeting up with her high school classmates regularly for lunch throughout the years. Mary Ann also looked forward to the annual family reunion at Steam Engine Days in Mabel, MN. She will be fondly remembered for her love of flowers and her passion for gardening.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Artis Senior Living of Woodbury, Prelude of Woodbury, Crystal DePonty, RN of Hospice of the Midwest, and Molly of Bluestone Physician Services for their kindness and compassionate care.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 4125 Woodbury Drive,. Woodbury, MN 55129, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. Visitation at 10:00 am. Mass at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at 1:00 pm at St. Mary's Cemetery in North St. Paul, MN. Luncheon to follow at Sgt. Pepper's in Oakdale, MN.
