Norman Dean Traher, 87, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona. Born on October 22, 1937, in Rock Springs, Wyoming, Norman was guided throughout his life by the strong values instilled in him from a young age. He earned a bachelor's degree in science with a focus on botany and zoology from Brigham Young University and began his professional career working in his family’s shoe store. He later transitioned into the mining industry before ultimately finding his calling in insurance and annuities. In this field, he made lasting contributions by helping clients secure their financial futures. Norman served with distinction in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Captain. His military service reflected his deep sense of duty and leadership. A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Norman served a mission in Tennessee as a young man and remained actively involved in church service throughout his life. He also mentored youth through the Boy Scouts troop affiliated with his church. Norman was known for his stubborn personality—career-driven yet devoted to those he loved. He brought lighthearted sense of humor to everyone he met. An avid outdoorsman and Chevy enthusiast, he also enjoyed movies and spending time with family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Geraldine Traher; their children Norman Scott Traher, Katherine Hjelm, Rebecca Sturman, and David Traher; their spouses Greg Hjelm, Ben Sturman, and Sonja Traher; grandchildren Melissa Raidiger, Cody Sturman, Ryan DeGrange, Victoria King, Shaun Hjelm, Jessica Collett, Madelynn Traher, and Hannah Traher; numerous great-grandchildren; and his brother Fred Traher and spouse Clara Traher. He was preceded in death by his parents Norman F Traher and Evelyn Traher (Danner); Sister Deborah Rawlings (Traher); and granddaughter Chelsie Raidiger. A visitation will be held on June 9, 2025, from 7:00 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. at Brings Funeral Home, a celebration of life will be planned at a later date so all family may attend. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
