**Biography of Evelena "Mama J." Gant** Evelena "Mama J." Gant, born on February 27, 1938, in Shreveport, Louisiana, was a cherished matriarch whose vibrant spirit and nurturing soul touched the lives of many. Residing in Sacramento, California, at the time of her passing on May 19, 2025, Mama J. was known for her remarkable kindness, generosity, and sly sense of humor, which endeared her to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Mama J. dedicated over 25 years of her career to serving the State of California, where she became renowned among her colleagues not only for her work ethic but also for hosting the best workplace potlucks ever. She had a unique talent for bringing people together, fostering community, and creating an environment where laughter and good food could be shared. Her passion for life extended far beyond her professional endeavors. Evelena's love for crocheting and sewing, born out of necessity, blossomed into a creative outlet where she crafted beautiful items that brought joy and warmth to those around her. Cooking was another of her great loves—she delighted in preparing meals that brought family and friends together, ensuring no one ever left her home feeling hungry. Christmas was truly magical for Mama J.; gifts adorned her beautifully decorated tree every year, each thoughtfully chosen for her beloved family and friends. Evelena is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Ingram Caston and Stephon Caston, Sr., her cherished son, Virtnand Mullen, her grandsons, Taurean "Tory" Chappell and Stephon Caston, Jr., and Brandon Caston, Sr., Her vibrant legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Adonis Caston, Yvie-Skye Caston, and Brandon Caston, Jr. She is also survived by a brother, numerous nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends whose lives she enriched with her presence. A Celebration of Life is being planned for this summer in Los Angeles, either in late July or early August—a fitting tribute to honor the remarkable woman who filled hearts with love and laughter. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of choice or any nonprofit organization that promotes autism research and awareness, reflecting Mama J.'s generous spirit and commitment to helping others. Evelena "Mama J." Gant leaves behind not just a legacy of love, but also an enduring reminder of the importance of community, creativity, and compassion. Her bright light will forever illuminate the memories she created and the countless lives she touched throughout her remarkable journey.
