Mudflap (Jose A. Maestas), born on April 24, 1946, in Mesita, Colorado, transitioned from this life on June 12, 2025, in Aurora, Colorado, leaving behind a legacy as vibrant as his spirit. He was a devoted family man, a kind-hearted friend, and an adventurous soul. Mudflap is survived by his loving spouse, Marisela Vargas, and their beautiful family, which includes children Jose, Jr. (Jennifer) Maestas, Maria (Paul) White, Lupe Maestas, Julio (Adrianna) Alcala, Francisco Alcala (Alyssa Garcia), Alma Alcala(Steven Romero), and Karla Vargas. He took immense joy in being a grandfather and great-grandfather, cherishing each moment spent with his grandchildren, who brought light and laughter into his life. Additionally, he is survived by his brother, Frank Mestas. Mudflap is preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe Jose and Martita Silva; daughter Martha Annette Maestas; Sisters, Helen, Tina and Freda.

Mudflap's journey in education was marked by his graduation from Albuquerque High School in Albuquerque, NM, followed by his dedicated service in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era from 1964 to 1970. He proudly received the Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal, which stand as a testament to his commitment to his country. Throughout his career, Mudflap drove for Chevron for many years, always bringing warmth and cheer to his workplace. He was known for his unwavering kindness, generosity, and loyalty, traits that defined him both personally and professionally. Beyond work, Mudflap was never far from his passions. He had an undeniable love for riding his motorcycle, often seen with a joyful smile alongside friends during leisurely rides. He appreciated the simple pleasures in life, often socializing over a cup of coffee, sharing stories, watching Western movies, listening to the oldies, and indulging in hearty laughter. He cherished family gatherings, especially those filled with laughter at the casinos alongside his babe, Marisela. Mudflap’s positive outlook on life and his humorous spirit served as a source of inspiration to all who knew him. His genuine, considerate nature allowed him to forge deep connections, and his memory will live on in the hearts of many. As we celebrate Mudflap's life, let us remember his infectious joy, his generous spirit, and the love he shared with his family and friends. May his legacy serve as a reminder to embrace every moment with positivity and kindness, just as he did throughout his remarkable life.

A Memorial Mass with Military Honors will be at a later date.
