Rebecca Peterson affectionally known as Granny, was born January 1st, 1932, in Myersville, Mississippi to two proud parents, Nancy and Pink Cowans. She moved to Chicago when she was three years old with her mother and her three sisters who preceded her in death Ladora, Allie and Creola.
Rebecca attended Raymond grammar school and graduated from Wendell Phillips High School. She worked at Stewart Warner Corporation for over 30 years until Stweart Warner relocated to Mexico. It was then she became a college student in 1993 at Olive-Harvey College studying Child Development. Rebecca married Gordon Peterson who preceded her in death in 2000 after 51 years of marriage.
Rebecca beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother made her heavenly transition June 6th, 2025 Rebecca leaves to cherish her memories three children D’mitri, Angela and Gary her grandchildren Alex, Kara (Maurice), Michael, Tabitha, Lisa. J’na, Ursula, Phillippe and Nicolette. 16 Great-Grandchildren and 14 Great-Great Grandchildren and nieces and nephew and a host of people who she considered extended grandkids because she was everybody’s granny who loved traveling and going to the casino.
Rebecca will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and unwavering love for anyone who came into her life. She leaves behind a legacy of love and memories that will be forever cherished by all who knew her.
