Shirley Marie Ruiz was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania in 1935. Her parents, Shirley and her sister Beverly relocated to Newark, NJ where she grew up, attended and graduated from South Side High School in 1953. She met and married her husband Felix Ruiz and they raised three children. They were married for 49 years. She relocated to St. Petersburg, FL in 2005 and spent the rest of her life in Florida.
After graduating from high school, Shirley had several jobs beginning at S.S. Kresge as a gift wrapper. She then became a secretary/stenographer for Candlecraft Company, Prudential and Mutual Benefit Life. She also worked for McCrory’s Department Store.
She was a proud mother and grandmother. Most of her days were spent running her household and being a caregiver.
She is survived by her three children, Marie, Felix (Lilia) and John. She has four grandchildren Felicia (Otto), Alexa (David (deceased)), Anjelica (James) and F. Joel (Valeria). She also has six great-grandchildren: Gabriella, Jayden, Joseph, Jeremiah, Joshua and Kash and expecting two more great-children on the way. She is also survived by her sister Beverly Pepe, nephew Ralph, Jr, niece Lisa (Rich). She is also survived by many family friends and their children.
Heartfelt thanks to all our family and friends who continue to lift us up in prayer, stand by our side, take the time to talk and listen to us and continue to support us through the years. Special thanks to Hospice who were always there for emotional and medical support around the clock. We could not have gotten through any of this without all of you.
