Hagop "Jack" Mashikian, Dr.
August 3rd, 1930 - June 14th, 2025
Hagop “Jack” Mashikian passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025, at the age of 94 after a brief illness. Born on August 3, 1930, in Iskenderun, Syria, Hagop was the eldest son of Serop and Vartouhi Mashikian. Hagop came to the United States in 1955 on the Andrea Doria after graduating from medical school at the American University of Beirut; subsequently, he completed his residency in psychiatry at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. In 1959 he married his beloved wife Lydia (Mikulich) Mashikian and together they had a daughter Jane and a son John.
He is survived by his daughter Jane Mashikian Jacob (Randy Yocum), his son John Serop Mashikian, and was preceded in death by his wife Lydia Mashikian (nee Mikulich). He was a loving grandfather to Christina Marie Smith (Drew Smith), Katherine Lydia Mashikian and Kristen Julie Mashikian and a proud great grandfather to Emma Claire Smith. He is also survived by his brothers Matthew Mashikian (Margarethe Mashikian), Hrayr Mashigian (Joanne Mashigian), Raffi Mashikian (Virginia Mashikian), his sister Syra Donoyan, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Viken Mashikian.
Hagop’s distinguished career in medicine included significant leadership roles with the New York State Department of Mental Health. In 1978, he joined the faculty of South Oaks Hospital in Amityville, New York and enjoyed a successful and distinguished career in private practice psychiatry until his retirement.
After retiring from medicine and relocating to St. Petersburg Florida, he became passionate about bringing the first Armenian Orthodox church to the area. In 2007 his dream materialized with the consecration, coincidentally, of St. Hagop’s Armenian Church in Pinellas Park, FL. When Hagop wasn’t playing golf, he was traveling the world and had visited 5 of the 7 continents.
Hagop had the unique ability to problem solve and his talents did not go unnoticed. Whenever someone or an organization needed help, he was always willing to lend a hand and often took control of the project, to everyone’s delight!
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation and Funeral Service which will be held on Friday, June 20th, 2025, at S. Hagop Armenian Church - 7020 90th Ave N, Pinellas Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made to St. Hagop Armenian Church in Pinellas Park, FL.
