Marie Frisch, of Lakewood, born and raised in Pueblo, passed away peacefully after a brief and unexpected illness, leaving behind a legacy of love.
Marie was a kind, generous, and vibrant soul whose life touched everyone lucky enough to know her. Though she worked for many years as a mortgage underwriter, her true passion was always music. She brought that passion to life as an engaging host on several radio stations and through her volunteer work with PBS, where she helped promote musicians during televised pledge drives.
A devoted supporter of the arts, Marie attended countless concerts and was a familiar face at local live music venues. It was through her beloved Sunday morning show on KHIH that she met the love of her life, Heinz Peter Frisch. Together, they shared a deep bond rooted in love, music, and adventure—and now, their spirits are reunited once again.
One of their most meaningful journeys together was reconnecting with Marie’s extended family in Slovenia—a mission that was deeply close to her heart. Through her dedication, she helped restore a cherished relationship with their Slovenian relatives, a bond her family continues to treasure. So proud of her heritage, Marie even applied for—and was granted—dual citizenship in Slovenia.
Marie was also a lifelong Colorado sports enthusiast and a devoted Denver Broncos fan. She proudly held season tickets for 42 years and rarely missed a game—supporting the team with steadfast loyalty, regardless of the season’s outcome. She also was a fitness buff, who spent many years training for and competing in body building competitions in her 30's and won Second in Miss Colorado in the early 90's.
Yet even her love for music and sports paled in comparison to her devotion to her family—the true center of Marie’s life. She is lovingly survived by her sister, Edie; brother, Frank (Della); and her “kids”—nephews David (Amy) and Eric; nieces Jennifer (Adam), Shannon (AJ), and Andrea (John); as well as five great-nieces and nephews and four great-great-nieces and nephews, all of whom she deeply cherished.
Marie played a unique and joyful role in their lives. Each niece and nephew fondly remember being taken to their first live concert by her—no matter who they wanted to see. Affectionately known as “Auntie Re,” she was the fun aunt who occasionally bent her siblings' rules to have adventures with her “kids.” She also leaves behind Max, her beloved cat, whose companionship she adored.
Marie’s compassion, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and friends defined her life. She gave freely of herself—her time, her talents, and her heart. She always showed up to support her friends and loved ones when they needed her most, offering a listening ear, a warm hug, or simply her steady presence. Her passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but her memory lives on in the countless lives she touched and in the enduring legacy of love she leaves behind.
A celebration of life will be held in the Denver area later this summer, with a private family memorial in Vail. Details will be shared as they are finalized.
