Lienkaemper Funeral Chapel-Ontario
Ina Angelina Schaffeld
September 23rd, 1934 - June 15th, 2025
Ina Angelina Brown Schaffeld, 90, Jamieson, Oregon, left this earth June 15th with all the love and support of her family. Ina (Oma) was born September 23,1934 in Ontario, Oregon to Ida Isabelle Johnson Brown and Coy Jennings Brown. Ina was the 3rd of 6 children. Her family lived on the farm located at the east end of Oregon Ave, now called Onion Avenue. The family consisted of her immediate siblings, parents and multiple generations that filled the home. The family worked together to ensure all the farm and household tasks were completed. Ina discovered that the household activities were not her strong suit, and she would rather be outside with the animals and helping take care of. Ina and her sister Lucy were inseparable and continued that relationship until the very end. They were known as the “Dollies”. She attended 1st - 8th grade at the former Valley View school that was located near the Cario area. Ina graduated from Ontario High School in 1954. While attending Ontario High School, she participated in school and church activities. After high school she attended Boise Junior College and worked as a telephone operator for Malheur Bell in Ontario. In 1956 tragedy occurred when Ina’s mother suffered a fatal brain aneurysm. Ina stayed on the farm to help and continued to work with Malheur Bell. Her brother Lee and his wife Dotty lived in Houston, Texas and soon she joined them in 1958 to attend Nursing School at Sacred Heart College. Ina loved Texas and she talked about her experiences while completing her degree- Bachelor of Science and Nursing 1962. Her classmates continued to be lifelong friends and kept in touch by phone and letters. She attended multiple class reunions and talked about them often. Ina’s college roommate Joan was honored to have a name’s sake; daughter Joan was named in her honor.
After graduation from Nursing School Ina remained in Texas and worked at Dow Chemical as an Occupational Health Nurse. Uncle Lee shared that Ina always talked about her love interest back home – a handsome farm boy from Jamieson- John Schaffeld. She returned to Oregon and the rest is history. Ina Brown married John Schaffeld on February 8, 1964, in Ontario, Oregon. They had 3 children Joan Ida, John Henry and Steven William. They raised their children on the ranch sharing the love of the land, hard work and helping those in need. She was known for her giving personality, love of Jesus, baking and her beloved family.
Ina worked various jobs when she worked in the Ontario area Ore- Ida as An Occupational Health Nurse, Vale Nursing Home, Dr John Kopp, Home Health Agency, Holy Rosary Hospital and finally the Malheur County Health Department. She was known to carry Flu/Tetus shots her purse to be ready to vaccinate at any given time. She was assigned to the county jail. We always believed that no one was interested in that position, so Ina was the best fit for that job. Over the years we noticed that complete strangers would approach her, give her a hug and say thank you. She always told them she was praying for them. Ina was a prayer warrior and when she prayed mountains moved.
Ina was a faithful volunteer in the local community and especially her church Willowcreek Community Church. She was always there to help- assisting with the financial records, board member, teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, bible studies and volunteering her time as the Shiloh Bible Camp Nurse. A church potluck favorite was her famous pork roast, fresh pies, and bread. Ina proudly followed, prayed, and supported her grandchildren’s sports and activities– throughout their elementary, middle school, high school, college, and national level competitions. If you were in the military, away from home or traveling, you were prayed for. Oma was the clutch to the competitions, and she would tell the kids- “I got you all prayed up and you are ready to go”. Her favorite teams were whatever her grandkids were on. However, we know that the Vale Vikings were always dear to her heart. She was a lifetime supporter of all 4-H and FFA programs. Ina was one of the founding members of the Ladies 25/25 Investment Club and proudly shared her investment knowledge. She loved sewing, needle work, quilting, china and silverware. She collected all the pieces that gave her joy or was a known family pattern. She was always on the hunt for these items. John was honored as a Grand Marshall for the Vale Rodeo, and she proudly presented her Lifetime Pass Holder at each rodeo as she cheered for her grandchildren. Oma loved her farming community and was proud to call the Jamieson area her home. She always encouraged teens to explore the world, get a job (do not be a free loader), go to college, or join the military. Then return to the community so they can appreciate how special the Willowcreek and Jamieson areas are. She was genuinely concerned when her age group was no longer able to live independently in their homes. She always helped as she could by delivering Meals on wheels and visiting those who needed social interaction.
Oma will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, family and friends. Her children, Joan Ida (Jose) John Henry (Robin), and Steven William (Jeri). Grandchildren, Joseph, Isabelle, Dominic, Marcus, Coy, Kase, Matteo, Tavian, Iliana, Holly, Cory, Sophia. Great Grand Children- Ivy Quinn, Jordan, William, Ara, Stevie and Cylus. Surviving siblings – Lee, Lucy, and Allen. Ina was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, sisters- Anna and Joyce. Aunt Ina was beloved by her nieces and nephews. Each of them claimed to be her favorite and she ensured that each of them felt that way. She was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren and always commented on how she was loved, included and honored, “My Quiver is Full”. She dearly loved her devoted friends, family and extended family.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for August 11th at 10:00 AM located at the Vale Christian Church officiated by Pastor Ed Renk. Lunch will be provided following the service. After lunch at 2:00 PM. Over the years, the business has grown and had a number of owners, partnerships and names. Among them was our current namesake, the Lienkaemper family, who purchased the family funeral home with the mission of helping families in the Ontario community. ...
