In Loving Memory of Ruwel Purice Arnhem   

On Monday, June 2, 2025, Ruwel Purice Arnhem, 77, took the hand of our Lord Jesus Christ and went home. He was born on April 3, 1948, in Paramaribo, Suriname, South America to Evert Richenel Arnhem and Magdalena Henriette (Grootfaam) Arnhem. He was the youngest boy of nine children. He is survived by his older sister, Wanda Heyns and her family here in the United States and many family members left behind in Suriname.

Although he had limited advantage in Suriname to further his education, that all changed when in 1985 Wanda invited him to come and live with her in the United States. Here he found passion for painting and tinkering with gadgets and small household appliances. He reused, repurposed, and recycled items that had given up into items that fulfilled another purpose in the home.

Here he got his driver’s license and a car. He got his own apartment. He loved his independence, spending time with his family (especially the babies), and traveling.

In November 1998, he earned a Certificate of Naturalization to become a citizen of the United States.

In his later years, he became disabled and lost his independence and found comfort in the scriptures of the Bible that we read to him.
