In Loving Memory of Samuel Isaac Epstein June 25, 1993 – June 15, 2025 Those who knew Captain Samuel Isaac Epstein knew a man of heart, strength, and unwavering dedication. On June 15, 2025, Sam’s remarkable life was cut short far too soon, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he touched. Born on June 25, 1993, to Andrew Epstein and Ilia “Mimi” Perez, Sam filled the lives of his family and friends with pride, joy, and deep love.
Sam was a man of immense heart and unwavering loyalty. He showed up every time, for everyone. Through life’s many challenges, he remained a constant source of strength, making things better, offering his support, never letting those around him feel alone. His kindness, generosity, and quiet presence touched countless lives. He was always quick to lend a helping hand, never asking for anything in return.
Family was at the center of Sam’s world. He lived for them and loved them fiercely, always putting them first. To those who knew him, Sam was a natural leader – articulate, sharp, and endlessly charming. He had the rare ability to connect with people from all walks of life, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was savvy and forward-thinking, always preparing for the future, making sure those he loved were cared for in every way.
Sam loved to have fun and lived every moment to the fullest. If you were with him, you were guaranteed a good time. He had a way of making sure no one around him was ever having a bad day. His smile could brighten any room, and his laughter was infectious, lifting the spirits of everyone around him. He carried himself with sincerity and grace, never seeking the spotlight but always making an impact. He was a friend, a brother, a son, a partner, and for so many, a grounding presence in their lives.
For ten years, Captain Epstein served his country as a U.S. Army Infantry Officer, a role he embodied with strength, purpose, and unshakable resolve. He was a no-nonsense, straight-to-the-point leader whose actions always spoke louder than words. Sam led by example, never above his soldiers, always beside them. Whether a mission was demanding or routine, whether others grew weary or indifferent, Sam gave nothing less than 100%, driven by his own inner standard of excellence. Cutting corners was not in his nature. Through grit, character, and unwavering commitment, he earned the trust and deep admiration of those who served alongside him.
Throughout his career, Captain Epstein earned numerous military honors, including two Meritorious Service Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the prestigious Ranger Tab, U.S. Army Parachutist Badge, and Air Assault Badge. He was also a graduate of the Maneuver Captains Career Course. Captain Epstein held key leadership and advisory positions with the 25th Infantry Division, 1st Armored Division, and 4th Security Force Assistance Brigade (SFAB), including roles as Company Commander, Executive Officer, Operations Advisor, Platoon Leader, and Staff Officer. His final assignment was as part of Force Package 24-1, serving in Budapest, Hungary, with the 4th SFAB in support of NATO allied training and advisory operations.
He is survived by his parents, Andrew Epstein and Ilia “Mimi” Perez; his brother, Andrew Epstein; his sister, Eva Epstein; his nephew, Michael Epstein; and his fiancée, Alexandra Hauser (Finley), along with his fellow service members, family, and countless friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
