Dante Villareal, 93, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 18, 2025.

Born on December 27, 1931, in Mambusao, Capiz, Philippines, Dante was the beloved son of Dominica and Bienvenido Villareal. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Santo Tomas School of Medicine and Surgery in 1957 and went on to become a gifted and compassionate surgeon in the Philippines. He was the medical director of Saint Anthony Hospital and professor at the Saint Anthony School of Nursing.  Later he continued his medical career in Michigan in 1972 as an emergency medicine physician, transitioning to family practice in the later years of his career until he retired in 2004. He married Rosario Andaya in 1964 and he personally delivered all 5 of their children. Together they raised a loving and thriving family.

He is survived by his wife, Rosario, children: Edwin (Jane), Hubert (Melissa), Giles, Leilani, Jules (Roeland), and Cheryl (Seema), grandchildren: Chase (Simone), Cale, Cohen, Gabriel, and Adeline, and great-grandchildren: Ares and Nova.

Dante was known for his gentle, kind and quiet nature. He expressed his deep love for family and friends through acts of service and thoughtful gifts. He also had a joyful, adventurous side; he loved to travel, visiting 14 countries and almost every state oftentimes with the whole family in tow in the station wagon or conversion van (think National Lampoon’s Vacation). The favorite was the family vacations to Disney World. He loved photography, music (he played 12 string guitar), dancing, movies, Hawaiian shirts and collecting quirky salt and pepper shakers. His generosity, humility, and unwavering devotion left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He will be remembered with deep affection and missed dearly.
