Elizabeth "Lib" McKenzie McCrary
November 11th, 1928 - June 19th, 2025
In Loving Memory
Elizabeth “Lib” McKenzie McCrary, 96 years old, passed away at home on June 19, 2025, in Gaston, SC. She was born in Florence, SC, to parents Alick McKenzie and Pherbie Andrews.
Lib was a devoted wife to her husband of 73 years, Charles “Mac” Howard McCrary, and stayed by his side until his passing in 2021. Together with their son, Charles “Charlie” Howard II, they lived in many different places, including Germany, Alaska, and New Jersey, and had settled back in SC for nearly 50 years.
Lib was proud of her time with the IRS as an Employee Development Specialist and retired in 1990. Lib enjoyed her weekly card games with her friends, line dancing, and could often be found in her armchair reading a book. She was an active member of the Sandy Run Women’s Club, as well as a devoted member of Rose Hill Presbyterian Church. She was a die-hard USC Gamecocks fan and cheered them on whenever possible. She had an impish sense of humor and a sharp wit, and was often described as a positive person and a good friend. Her hair was styled weekly, and her nails were always painted (pink, of course).
She is survived by her grandson, Charles Howard McCrary III “Trey”, his wife Joann, great-grandchildren Nicholas and Benjamin, granddaughter Erin Dail McCrary, former Daughter-in-law Linda Allen (Ed), sister Margaret Bryant (late husband Charles), and dear family friend, Starr Wolfe.
In addition to her parents, Lib was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Howard, and her son, Charles Howard II (Survived by wife Pamela), as well as brother Lewis McKenzie (late wife Melba) and sister Doris Howard (late husband Charles).
The family will hold a visitation on Monday, June 30, 2025 at 11 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 12 p.m. at Rose Hill Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC.
She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Mac, in Florence, SC, at Mt. Hope Cemetery that afternoon at 3 p.m. In place of flowers, donations to the Harvest Hope Food Bank are welcome.
