In Loving Memory of William Mickey Ward, Sr.

October 8, 1957 – June 14, 2025

William Mickey Ward, Sr., age 67, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on October 8, 1957 in Beaufort, to Vincent “Bo” Ward and Katharine Fabian Ward, Mickey’s life was filled with laughter, love, and a spirit that brought people together.

He was the beloved husband of Jody Kelchner Ward, a devoted father to Billy, Joey (Tasha), Winston, Neil (Jena), John Crocker V (Jennifer), and Kyle Mays; a loving brother to Raleigh (Carol), Turley (Julie), Roger, Mark Jackson, Mike Jackson, and Janet Studdard; and a proud uncle to many nieces and nephews. His legacy continues through his 14 cherished grandchildren (Alanna, Adriana, Nathan, Jace, Wyatt, Wade, Johnny, Eva, William, Lilly, Jaxon, Skyla, Kayleigh and Zane) and two precious great-grandchildren (Harper and Laylani), all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.

A true Carolina soul, Mickey enjoyed life’s simple joys— watching baseball and football, fishing, and golfing. He was also a dedicated die-hard fan of the Carolina Panthers and the South Carolina Gamecocks. But nothing compared to his passion for NASCAR— he never missed a race and could tell you stats, drivers, and finishes like a walking encyclopedia. He also raced Enduro with his own race car at Oglethorpe Speedway for many years. Mickey and his racing partner and one of his best friends, Timmy Dasher, worked together building these race cars. They also raced their stock car for their race team (Mungin Creek Racing) at the Hardeeville Motor Speedway.

Mickey’s happiest moments were spent with family and friends. Known for his quick wit and unforgettable jokes and storytelling, he was the life of every party and could light up any room with his presence. His warmth, humor, and love will forever be remembered by all who knew him

A Celebration of Life will be held at Bluffton Oyster Factory Park, July 27, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. where friends and family will gather to honor and remember the incredible man Mickey was. We will have live music, food, and non-alcohol beverages, but you are welcome to BYOB. Seating is limited, so bring a chair if you have one.  Please scroll below and RSVP if you will be able to attend.  Thank you.
