Duane R. Blackwood

Mr. Duane R. Blackwood, age 66, of Gloversville, New York, passed away in his home on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.

He was born on March 29, 1959 in Amsterdam, New York, the son of Lester Sr. and Erma (Shelmandine) Blackwood. He attended Johnstown High School before receiving his GED in California. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1982 until 1989 as Boatswains Mate Second Class. Following his leave from the Navy he became a corrections officer for the state of New York, with most of his years spent at Hale Creek Correctional Facility until his retirement. Duane was a family man and enjoyed spending his time with the love of his life, his wife of 42 years, and his children and grandchildren whom he loved with all his heart. He enjoyed being outdoors whether it was at picnics and family reunions or camping and fishing with his friends. He enjoyed being the life of the party, engaging with everybody and always trying to make them laugh. A friend to all.

Duane is survived by his children: Channing Blackwood, Amanda (Thomas) Mullins, Justin (Whitney) Blackwood and Sawyer Blackwood; his grandchildren: Jackson, Evan, Austin, Abbie, Adam, Kyle, Jase, Vanessa, Amara and Tegan; his siblings: Lester (Ann) Blackwood, Randy (Carol) Blackwood, William (Star) Blackwood, David (Diane) Blackwood, Wendy (Mike) Suchy.

He was predeceased by his wife: Kelly Blackwood;his parents: Lester Sr. and Erma Blackwood, his daughter: Jacqueline Blackwood; his brothers: Timothy Blackwood, Keith Blackwood, Chris Blackwood and his father and mother in law: Francis and Eila Charles.

A visitation will be held on July 2 from 10 AM to 12 noon at the Betz,Rossi,Bellinger & Stewart Funeral Home 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, NY 12078.
