Lynn Irwin Bowen, also known as Carolyn Irwin, age 78, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, at her home in Indialantic, Florida, devoted husband Jim by her side.

Lynn was born at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Denver while her father served as Professor of Military Science and Tactics at Colorado State University. She later attended Colorado State University, where she met and married James (Jim) Bowen. Before Lynn could complete her degree, Jim entered military service, and the young couple began their journey together, moving often and living in many distant places. Lynn ultimately earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Kentucky.

As an Army wife, Lynn poured her energy into raising their two daughters while also building a rich and varied career. She worked as a teacher’s aide, piano teacher, cheerleading coach, addiction counselor, and owner of a wedding planning and consulting business. She was an avid amateur pianist, an award-winning cheer coach, a no-nonsense counselor, and a detail-obsessed wedding planner. Yet her most fulfilling and joy-filled roles were those of wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Lynn was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Deborah Walker and her brother, Richard Irwin. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Jim Bowen; daughter Karie Ryan (husband David Ryan); grandchildren Michael, Daniel, Joseph, and Kathryn Ryan, Madilynn Walker Adikes and Steven Walker; and great-granddaughter Lennyn Hope Adikes.

A private family gathering will celebrate Lynn’s full and love-filled life. Her legacy may be honored through donations to VITAS Hospice or a meaningful charity of choice.
